Summary: Through a single event, countless lives have been lost. But some, also, have been saved.
A.N.: I wasn't sure if this should be part of Precious Things. But ultimately, the events depicted in this story are triggered due to Vulcan's destruction. So with that in mind, I'm going with making it a part of this series.

Pergium: a radioactive element used for power in 23rd century nuclear reactors. Pergium is used by thousands of worlds as a source of energy. Many types of environmental control systems cannot function without the use of pergium. One such system was traditionally used to power the control systems of every Vulcan structure before the planet's destruction.

I'm keeping it separate from the story itself because I prefer to keep any distracting/extra text out of the fic post itself, just for the sake of letting readers finish the story without immediately being thrown at something else. =) Also, I kinda of blather on here and I'm shy about exposing people to that sort of stuff when all they may want is a good story to read and noting more (or less!).

Anyway. I'm blathering on already. Ha.
