I'm glad they took a new path for a new continuity, personally. And the destruction of Vulcan allows them to keep staying on that new path - it's such a huge change that the ripples will be felt through the whole timeline of that continuity from thereon, I've no doubt. I was raised on Star Trek - the though that I'll be able to essentially keep growing (old, shh) with it warms my heart. :)
